چکیده

Introduction In percutanous MR-guided interventions passive markers are used to delineate the position or the trajectory of rigid instruments. In particular, for linear instruments such as puncture needles cylindrical markers are favorable, as the instrument can be safely accommodated in their interior. Cylindrical markers can be localized rapidly if their approximate position is known [1]; however, only the symmetry axis of the instrument is determined and the rotation angle against the axis, which can be important e.g. to avoid needle deflection, is not known. In this work, a modified passive marker is proposed. The 3D position and rotation of the marker is estimated in real time, and an imaging slice is adjusted and orientated accordingly. Through the integration of a rotation-invariant linear structure, additionally the marker rotation is detected in two steps using a dedicated phase-only cross correlation algorithm.

Closing the Calibration Loop: An Inside-out-tracking Paradigm for Augmented Reality in Orthopedic Surgery

In percutaneous orthopedic interventions the surgeon attempts to reduce and fixate fractures in bony structures. The complexity of these interventions arises when the surgeon performs the challenging task of navigating surgical tools percutaneously only under the guidance of 2D interventional X-ray imaging. Moreover, the intra-operatively acquired data is only visualized indirectly on external ...

Video-based Marker-less Tracking System in Gait Analysis

An alternative to the 3D motion marker-based optical camera capture is the Star Tracker 3D, a marker-less video-based tracking system. The aim of our study is to investigate the efficacy of the Star Tracker 3D. A series of gait analysis tests were carried out on ten subjects with a marker and marker-less tracking system simultaneously. The study suggests potential application in gait analysis i...

Volume Navigation with Contrast Enhanced Ultrasound and Image Fusion for Percutaneous Interventions: First Results

OBJECTIVE Assessing the feasibility and efficiency of interventions using ultrasound (US) volume navigation (V Nav) with real time needle tracking and image fusion with contrast enhanced (ce) CT, MRI or US. METHODS First an in vitro study on a liver phantom with CT data image fusion was performed, involving the puncture of a 10 mm lesion in a depth of 5 cm performed by 15 examiners with US gu...

Comparison of Two Real Time Tracking Methods for a Robotic Assistance System

Introduction Percutaneous interventions are difficult to perform in closed-bore MRI systems, because access to the target organ is restricted due to the limited space in the magnet. This limitation was overcome with a commercial robotic assistance system (RAS), which can precisely position and orient a medical instrument (e.g., a needle) with a robotic arm. To co-register the robot position in ...

Navigated CT-guided interventions.

Diagnostic and therapeutic CT- guided percutaneous interventions are clinical routine in interventional radiology. Image-guided navigation systems visualize the internal anatomy during interventions in real time not necessitating continuous image acquisition. Although multiple 3D image-guidance devices have been developed and used by several surgical disciplines in the last few years, they have...
